Close-knit and semi-rural, Kingsville with a total area of 10.1 square miles, is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County, MD. Baltimore County Maryland is unique among other Maryland counties since there are no incorporated towns within its boundaries. Kingsville is referred to as a Census Designated Place rather than an incorporated town. The name of this area was taken from a Pennsylvania gentleman by the name of Abraham King who, in 1816, acquired 280 acres in the vicinity. Kingsville has a rich history going back nearly 350 years.
There are a number of distinctive historical locations nearby including the historic Jerusalem Mill Village, a living history museum that spans the 18th through early 20th centuries. It is one of the oldest and most intact mill villages on the east coast. Jerusalem Mill, which now serves as the park headquarters and visitor center, was acquired in 1961 by the state as part of Gunpowder Falls State Park. In 1817, an Edward Day donated 2 acres of land in Kingsville for a new church, which he had built at his own expense. You will find the St. Johns Episcopal Church at this same location today at the intersection of Bradshaw, Belair, and Jerusalem Roads. In addition, the Kingsville area has the distinction of being the location for the oldest courthouse in Baltimore County. For those of you who remember the Cold War with the Soviet Union, Kingsville was also the location of one of 16 Nike missile batteries constructed to protect the Washington-Baltimore area.
